Boys at play
At Muzhucode, A Community Centre functions with a variety of rural development programmes for Self Help Groups, camping programmes, music training, and training for other NGOs in community development. The Centre concentrates on rural development, motivating the rural communities in developmental programmes keeping in mind exclusively the aspirations, requirements and viability of the rural sector.
The Marthandam Rural Centre maintains a Boys' Home at Muzhucode.. The Home accommodates 60 school children, who are either orphans or semi-orphans or deserted by their parents and wards. Normally such children in the society, due to lack of parental care, education, health and hygiene become dropouts, child labourers and delinquents. These type of children are often exploited by greedy industrialists engaging them in brick kilns, weaving, cottage industries as cashew, match stick making, broom making, printing etc. Such children learn the habit of betel chewing, smoking and consume spurious liquor in their formative periods and become drug addicts
.
Realising the need to transform these unfortunate children into socially responsible citizens, the Home was initiated with a long-range vision to create a lamp in the dark lives of these neglected and uncared children.
